20.6.2011
...the 2008 finalists at Anglesea Road on Saturday June 12th. Merrion won the toss and elected to bat. Ben Ackland & Dom Joyce got the home side off to a good start with a 1st wicket partnership of 113. Dom Joyce was out for 56 and the innings was then built around a fine innings of 123 by Ben Ackland. Matt Petrie batted well for 43 also. Merrion ended up on 271 for 8 after 50 overs.
Donemana required 272 for victory and got off to a reasonable start with a steady opening partnership of 40. Some good bowling by the home side restricted Donemana to 136 for 4 wickets after 33 overs. Merrion seemed in control of the game until McGerrigle came to the crease. Damian Poder was brought on from the Hazeldene end and McGerrigle gratefully accepted the challenge. McGerrigle scored a fine 65 off 27 balls which brought Donemana right back in to contention. They now required 56 runs from the last 8 overs with 3 wickets in hand. Dom Joyce returned with the ball and after being dispatched to Herbert Park for a huge 6, had McGerrigle caught at long on which effectively ended Donemana’s chances. The tail was cleaned up by Petrie and Kane and Merrion won by 27 runs. The pick of the bowlers was Tyrone Kane with 4 for 34 off 10 overs.
